In this video, I’ll show you how to create a cinematic flicker reveal effect in DaVinci Resolve without using Fusion.
First, prepare two clips: a clean plate and a clip with your subject walking in. Make sure your camera is stable in both shots.
Place the clean plate first on the timeline. Then position the subject clip on top, going back five frames before the subject appears.
Go to the Color tab and use Magic Mask. Set the quality to Better and paint over your subject.
Track forward and backward to ensure the mask follows the subject.
Add an Alpha Output and connect the node.
Now go back to Edit and right-click the subject clip. Choose Render In Place using DNxHR, 16-bit, and render at source resolution.
Once rendered, cut every single frame and delete alternate frames to create the flicker effect.
Optionally, add a Color Generator effect for a colored flicker style.
That’s how you create a cinematic flicker reveal effect in DaVinci Resolve without using Fusion.
